Pattern making is an individualised craft with no two artists ever the same. A pattern forms the most ESSENTIAL component of the development process; a critical foundation behind a perfectly fitting end result. The pattern will transform your design into a cardboard template which is then traced onto fabric and progressed to the sampling stage. Most importantly, it is the final pattern that will ‘make or break’ your end product.

Sample Making

‘Sample making’ is mandatory for a perfect pattern.

The first pattern sample will be used for testing proportions, balance and to identify any fit issues or concerns in fabric behaviour.

A personal sample service is available for your convenience.

You are welcome to source your own sample machinist or manufacturer, alternatively a comprehensive ‘Industry Directory’ file is available for purchase. This will assist you in connecting with the most suitable relations to bring your design visions to life.

Pattern Grading

Pattern grading is the process of turning your base size, the sample size, into additional sizes leading into production. As Victoria’s leading pattern grading service The Body Beautiful knows grading better than anyone.

While The Body Beautiful is experienced in several computer grading systems, and acknowledges their capability and convenience, manual pattern grading is considered superior and is, therefore, the only method used.

In a digital age, the expectation is that computerisation is the leading, and thus the ultimate approach. Yet, on many occasions, it is the original crafts that provide authentic first-class art, and manual pattern grading is unquestionably one of those exceptions.
